Adopting Safety and Security Measures
In recent years, school safety has been a major concern that seems to be on everyone’s mind. During the 2017-2018 school year, there were at least 3,380 threats made in K-12 schools. According to researchers, this is an increase of more than 60 percent compared to previous years. As a result, there is a 315 percent increase in the purchase of security cameras, and a 167 percent increase in K-12 public schools requiring all staff members to wear badges. Schools are proactively adopting safety and security measures to prevent school violence, bullying, drug and alcohol use, as well as internal and external threats. - Requiring students to wear badges or picture IDs
- Enforcing a strict dresscode
- Random dog sniffs to check for drugs
